Artist's Comments

A chance to study a moment that would pass in a split second.

This is just one exposure, only colours and noise removed in Photoshop.
I achieved the effect using a strobe lamp that I built, in a very dark room, at night, with lots of patience.

Dude that is awesome please tell me how you did that? I've been shooting for 4 years and I've just got a few guesses how you did it so perfectly. I really wanna capture a shot like that. Awesome work bro!!!! J.Scott

Thankyou, glad you like it.
For those interested, here is how I did it:

I set up in a very dark room (almost black) and set my camera on a tripod with the glass on the table. I set the camera to around a second exposure (can't remember exactly), with an apeture of around f/3 (which meant I had to be very careful with the manual focussing).
To get the effect of the falling coin, I used a strobe lamp that I built, which flashes at 20Hz. Once the stobe was going, I opened the shutter and dropped the coin. As the room was so dark, each flash of the strobe acted like a new exposure, but all within the same frame, which allowed me to 'freeze' time.
It wasn't easy, It took lots and lots of tries before I got results like the one above, and in between each shot I had to wipe up the surface and refill the glass too!

The strobe thing was just an idea I had one day, never thought it would be so effective! I have a few more shots done in this way, which I will upload when I have time...

Beautiful! Just amazing artists work that hard - with such a passion - so that a image like this can be captured and shared. Congratz!
